Privacy, Legal & Safety

Complete documentation covering how every Family Tools app handles data, complies with federal and state law, and protects your family. Written in plain language first, with full legal terms available.

The Short Version

Family Tools apps don't track your kids. They don't track you. They don't use cookies. They don't serve ads. They don't sell data — because they don't collect data worth selling. The only analytics tool across all four apps is Plausible, which counts page views anonymously with no cookies, no IP addresses, and no personal data.

These tools were built by Brian Louden for his own family. They're shared freely because they're useful and there's no reason not to. There's no company behind them, no investors, no business model that depends on user data. That's not a marketing claim — it's the architecture.

Who Operates These Apps

Family Tools apps are personal projects created and maintained by Brian Louden, an individual based on the island of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. Brian is a former paramedic instructor and filmmaker. There is no company, LLC, or corporate entity behind these apps. Brian builds them, Brian maintains them, Brian is responsible for them.

What "Zero Tracking" Actually Means

Every Family Tools app is built with zero behavioral tracking. Here's exactly what that means:

No cookies. Not first-party. Not third-party. Not "strictly necessary." Zero. The apps use localStorage for theme preferences (like dark mode) — that stays on your device and is never transmitted anywhere.

No IP address logging. Plausible, the analytics tool used across all apps, does not store or process IP addresses. There is no server-side access log retention.

No fingerprinting. No browser fingerprinting, canvas fingerprinting, or any other technique that identifies users across sessions.

No third-party scripts besides Google Fonts (for typography) and Plausible (for anonymous page view counts). No Facebook pixel. No Google Analytics. No ad networks. No retargeting.

No behavioral profiling. No usage patterns are tracked, no click paths are recorded, no session replays exist. Nobody is watching what your family does inside these apps.

Accessibility Architecture

Every Family Tools app ships with four themes: Dark (default), Light, Fun (kid-friendly), and High-Contrast (WCAG 2.2 AAA). The high-contrast theme uses pure black/white backgrounds with yellow accents and maximum contrast ratios.

Animations are disabled by default. All motion effects — card transitions, fade-ups, hover lifts — are suppressed with a CSS blanket (animation:none!important; transition:none!important). They only activate if the user's device signals it's acceptable via prefers-reduced-motion: no-preference.

Touch targets are 48px minimum. Every button, link, and interactive element in every app meets or exceeds this threshold. This isn't just for accessibility compliance — it's designed for small hands.

Screen reader support. All interactive elements carry appropriate aria-label attributes. Decorative elements are marked aria-hidden="true". Content structure follows semantic HTML with proper heading hierarchy.

No horizontal scroll at 320px. Every app is tested at the narrowest standard viewport. Nothing breaks, nothing overflows, nothing requires side-scrolling.
